Three weeks ago, on December 1st around 11:30 in the morning, a Dangriga woman reported to police that her eighteen year old special needs daughter was home alone when a man raped her.

Three weeks have passed and no significant progress has been made in the case. Today this distraught mother says she feels that the police aren't doing enough to help her daughter. To protect the identity of the victim - we have also concealed her mother's face…..

Andrea Polanco
"She had the house open or the perpetrator force his way inside?"

Voice of Victim's Mother
"My daughter even if I am not home she like to play with her dog so you would find her underneath the house playing with the dogs. She said that he ask her for water. So probably she was downstairs and he lures her up because she has to go inside to get it. I was home all week, it was only until Monday that I went out, my son was here and he came and ask here where her brother is."

Andrea Polanco
"So apparently the person had known that nobody else was at home."

Voice of Victim's Mother
"The person knows that nobody was at home because once you ask her questions she will answer. She spent enough time with her, so she could have identified him."

Andrea Polanco
"So, so far what are they telling you?"

Voice of Victim's Mother
"They keep saying like; this police woman that was on the case call me in. I am not happy, because why can't they arrest him?"

Andrea Polanco
"What do you want at this time? For the police to detain this person that rape your daughter?"

Voice of Victim's Mother
"Yes, I would be satisfied because if they arrest him and go on with the case. I want to see something done."

A doctor confirmed that the teenager had been raped.

The Dangriga police said that the person the eighteen year old named as the perpetrator has been checked out and has so far given his blood to be tested against that which was found at the scene of the crime. They also said they are working diligently on the case and will continue to do so to find the man who committed the crime.
