Police in Punta Gorda shot a man late last night in a scene that comes straight out of one of those wild, wild west scenarios.
Around 11:00 last night, Sergeant John Sanchez claims that a group of men in a pickup shot at his house and drove off. The pickup was the property of a Chinese Grocer while brothers Dennis and Norman Trapp were riding shotgun.
Sergeant Sanchez and his brother, a constable went to the Grocery Store named Tommy's and started to escort the proprietor to the police station. But, on their way, the police say the pickup came around again and let off with a peal of gunfire. It circled again and by that time the Special Patrol Unit had arrived.
Police returned fire and that's when the PICKUP COLLIDED INTO A PARKED FORD RANGER PICKUP AND STOPPED. Dennis Trapp had been shot while his brother Norman Trapp and Guo Quan Yu were unhurt. Dennis Trapp is hospitalized at the Southern Regional Hospital.
Police say 26 EXPENDED SHELLS WERE RETRIEVED FROM THE SCENE.
