Long weekends are too often a menace on the roadways and this one proved no different.

The first pair of fatalities was recorded simultaneously on Saturday afternoon at 1:00.

83 YEAR OLD RONALD AND 82 YEAR OLD MARTIE MORAN, an American couple living in Sarteneja Village, were killed when their F350 Supercab pickup had a blowout and plunged into the Mexico Creek at mile 21 on the Northern Highway. The creek is almost dry at this time of year - but the creek bed is still about ten or more feet below the highway.

And for these octogenarians, the impact was massive and terminal. Pictures from the scene show the front end of the truck completely crushed under the weight of the impact.

Martie Moran who was in the passenger seat died on the spot and Ronald Moran died while he was being extricated from the wreck.
