So what's with the so called tasering? Well, as you saw in that story, Jules Vasquez took a shot of it for himself to see what all the fuss was about. It is not a taser - which is something completely different - it is a mini stunner.
Head of the GSU, Marco Vidal explained what it is and how and why they use it:..
Marco Vidal, Head of GSU
"What we use is a stunner - that is a device that none-lethal. And it is basically a replacement of what would be the baton. And it will cause a temporary discomfort, but it will not cause any permanent damage or injury to anyone. It is enough to subdue to the person. We don't use it arbitrarily; we use that when there is a resistance - when we're making an arrest and the person is resisting arrest. It will take a few seconds for the person to disabled and then we handcuff the person and have him subdued. It will cause a temporary discomfort but that's about it. It doesn't cause any kind of permanent damage or injury to anyone. Unlike, if we are to use the baton, then - we have the authority to use the baton just like the taser - but the baton can cause more permanent damage than anything else."
And that's not all from the GSU - our 7news team went inside this unit, and looked at their training, their weapons, and also went on operation with them,. We'll have the first part of that story tomorrow night, so make sure to tune in for that…
