He was a convicted killer, sentenced to life in prison, but Dionicio "Life" Salazaar appealed, got a retrial and was acquitted. A free man after that, he allegedly went on to kill again - and went on the run. When police caught up with him, they charged him for the second murder and then served him with the notice of appeal for the acquittal on the first murder.
That appeal was heard today where it was presented by the Director of Public Prosecutions Cheryl Lyn Vidal. Vidal appealed the decision of the trial judge, Herbert Lord - who she claimed, had erred when he instructed the jury to return a formal verdict of not guilty because the identification evidence was insufficient.
The panel of judges agreed and allowed the appeal and ordered that there be a new trial for Salazaar - who will now go on trial for the same murder for a third time.
The victim was Rodney August who was chopped to death on San Ignacio in 2004.
Salazaar will also face a fourth murder trial for last year's killing of Marlon Rivera - who was killed - allegedly when Salazaar went after the uncle of his first victim.
He remains on remand for the Rivera murder.
