And another child was killed - this one a ten year old who was run over between miles 25 and 26 on the Hummingbird Highway yesterday at about 3:45pm.
Byron Gonzales a student of the Light of the Valley Baptist Primary School at Valley Community was knocked down by a Toyota Hilux driven by 40 year old Martha Flamenco of St. Margaret's Village. He was reportedly stepping out from behind a bus and stepped right into the path of the oncoming pickup. The child sustained a massive head injury and died on the spot.
And, in the spate of accidents involving children, one more was knocked down in the city last night. This time it's 7 year old Eric Noel Recinos who went on a bicycle to buy groceries for his mother at the Discount Supermarket on Mahogany Street.
He was riding west, when a man on a motorcycle heading in the other direction knocked him down. They collided near the Western Avenue junction. The boy received only minor injuries but the authorities thought it best that he go to the hospital as a safeguard.
