The area at the western border between Belize and Guatemala is called no man's land - and this weekend, it earned that name with an incident of lawless outlaw behavior.
An on duty police constable was assaulted by several Guatemalan taxi drivers on Saturday morning. The Constable was assisting Belizean Border Management Personnel to remove several Guatemalan taxi drivers from in front of the OAS Adjacency Zone office which is on Belizean territory. But according to our reports, during the attempt, at least 5 taxi drivers resisting the move attacked him, threw him to the ground and took his service revolver. They also tried to shoot him with the gun but luckily it misfired. Gladden was also struck to the head with a rock and received over a dozen stitches at the San Ignacio Community Hospital. Benque Viejo police are supposedly working along with Guatemalan police to investigate the outrageous incident. Whether they will be assisted by footage from the Adjacency Zone Office remains uncertain…..
