Last night we told you about the historic first judgment that the Caribbean Court of Justice made on A Belizean case. It found that in a case of public misfeasance the Attorney General can bring action against former government officials, in this case former Ministers Jose Coye and Florencio Marin.
Government's allegation is that the pair arranged the transfer of 56 parcels of State land to a company beneficially owned and/or controlled by one of them and paid almost $1 million dollars below market value for it. A release from the government today noted that it had won and costs were awarded in its favour.
Now it's left to be seen if government will seek to recover the financial loss. A spokesperson for Joe Coye told us that they are looking forward to a having the matter heard in a courtroom because the charges are ludicrous.
