Like most schools, the staff at St. Mary's has been preparing for the new semester. But they got a major setback this morning when they found that the school had been burglarized and vandalized.

The principal made the discovery when she got in this morning and found that her office had been turned upside down.

She told us about it:

Beatrice Geban - Prinicipal, Saint Mary's School

"I found that the main entrance to my office was opened. I found that the main entrance to the school was also opened, and the padlocks were broken. I immediately looked towards the back door of the school building and I found that part of the door was actually stamped in, and the padlocks that secured the grill for that door was also broken as well. We found out that almost every classroom was broken into. Even though they had broken off the padlocks for the main door, I must say that we are also lucky because most of our resources were intact, except for a few minor things that I believe they have stolen. One of the biggest things that they stole from the school is the big TV that we had in the computer lab, and I believe that it's very valuable. I will be very difficult to replace that item at this time. We're appealing to the general public, and to individuals that live in this area, to be kinder to our school and to be school-friendly. If you see vandalism is occurring, make a report. It is very difficult for us as educators to be replacing these items over and over."

The items stolen are a Sony TV, a projector, a popcorn maker, basketballs, water bottles, ten fans and some supplies. One of the fans and the Sony TV was found at the entrance to a nearby ally this morning.

Anyone wishing to help the school replace the other equipment can call the principal at 605-2598.
