The Belizeans for Justice group has joined the ranks of those organizations opposing the ninth amendment to the constitution.

The BFJ says it has gotten legal advice and has concluded that, quote, "aspects of the ninth amendment bill run counter to the core principle of our constitutional democracy."

The BFJ argues that the legislature should not have the power to change fundamental rights unless that power is given through a referendum.

So far the PUP, The Chamber of Commerce, the Council of Churches, the Ashcroft Alliance and the Bar Association have made public their opposition to the ninth amendment.
