This morning when two accused murderers, 21 year old Akeem Humes and 21 year old Ryan Alvarez appeared in the #1 Magistrate's court for the murder of Jason Flores, the prosecution made a request that the charge be withdrawn due to insufficient evidence.
But chief Magistrate Margret McKenzie would not allow the charge to be withdrawn because there was no formal request in writing from the Director of Public Prosecution, Cheryl Lynn Vidal.
As a result, Humes and Alvarez will have to wait for a written directive from the DPP before the charge is withdrawn.
Flores was shot and killed around 7:30am on December 9, 2009. Flores was on Kraal Road heading from home to work when a lone gunman approached him and shot him several times.
Alvarez was arrested and charged in April 2010 while Humes was arrested and charged in September 2010.
