In May first, 10 year old Hattieville resident Aniqua Fisher almost lost her life when she was violently flung from a minivan that flipped just outside of Belmopan.

She and the other five persons in the van were all going to the National Agriculture and Trade Show, but they never made it.

Aniqua was the most seriously injured - but she survived. Still, she has long term damage that she needs to treat in the United States.

We've been following up on her and today found that she's got her ticket and is heading to a new life:

Jules Vasquez Reporting:

Looking at this healthy, smiling 10 year old, you'd never think that just three months ago this was her - flung from a minivan which flipped on its way to the National Agriculture and Trade Show.

She received a serious injury to the area where her shoulder meets the neck and multiple abrasions to her face. Today though, she's healthy and well after a difficult healing.

Curlette Bainton - Mother

"She is as strong girl. She's - I guess they say that she gets it from her mom. So, she's really strong, and she's back up. She's riding her bike; she's back in the kitchen. It's just that her hand gives her a little bit of trouble, so that's the only thing, because she can't lift it."

Indeed, look closely though and the scares are still there. She was too shy to show us the bad ones underneath her shirt near her shoulder - but she's been through a skin graft to replace a missing chunk of tissue.

Now, she's going to live with her father in the United States to receive continuing treatment.

Curlette Bainton
"Well, I think that she's in much better condition than when we first saw her, and she is doing pretty good. And, the only thing is that she can't move her hand like how she would want to, but she is doing well. She had a skin graft done in Orange Walk, and that was okay, and so far everything is - she is getting there.

Jules Vasquez
"Okay, so now, what are your immediate plans for her going forward. She's come up to a big change in her life."

Curlette Bainton
"Well, she's leaving on Saturday with her dad to go to the United States. She will be living there, and she will seek further assistance there."

Jules Vasquez
"How long do you think it will take you, a few months, a few years?"

Aniqua Fisher
"Not long."

Curlette Bainton
"She has a nice life, and a normal life. So I hope that everything works out."

So now this very attached mother and daughter will have to part ways.

Curlette Bainton
"She's been with me for 10 years, and I have never let her out of my sight before, so I think that this will be the hardest part, letting her go. But I know that she will be safe, and I know that she will be in good hands, so I'll make the sacrifice, and I'll have to let her go."

Aniqua leaves for Los Angeles tomorrow - the beginning of another chapter for this remarkably durable ten year old.

Curlette Bainton also thanked all those who have helped her throughout the past few months...
