A Forty year old man, known as a "Jungle Scavenger" - a term used for those who work and live at the dump site, Warren Logan who pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods last week, pleaded guilty to a second count of Handling Stolen Goods when he appeared today in the #8 Magistrate's Court.
Magistrate Emmerson Banner fined Logan $1,500. He ordered Logan to pay $500 forthwith and the balance by September 15. Logan was unable to pay so he was taken to prison to begin serving a time of 18 months.
On August 9th the police searched Logan's house at Mile 2 ½ Western Highway and found a 25 inch RCA Flat screen television that was stolen during a burglary at the residence of Elizabeth Gomez. Logan claimed he bought the TV for $250 from a friend and he did not know that it was stolen.
Logan's common-law-wife Stephanie Hemsley was charged jointly with him but the charge against her was withdrawn. Last week Logan was fined $750 by magistrate Roberto Ordonez for Handling Stolen Goods. The items included one DVD player, one iron and 5 assorted DVD's. Items were stolen during a burglary at the residence of Josephine Waller located at Mile 4 ½ on the Western Highway. Hemsley was also charged jointly with Logan for that offence but the charge against her was also withdrawn.
