After taking a week's break - the Prime Minister is back - and apparently, he is in a mood to write. He fired off a three page, 1400 word response to the council of churches today after that body came out against the ninth amendment last week.
He notes that the council met with the Bar Association but adds that, quote,
"it is a pity that the Council did not also seek to hear directly from Government. For I believe that the Council has been led into grave error by the Executive of the Bar." End quote.
The Prime Minister argues that quote
"if no part of the original Constitution can be upset by a court… the position must be the same for a properly passed amendment that then stands on exactly the same footing as the rest of the…Constitution."
The letter goes on at great length to elaborate on this and other issues, and closes by saying the government is still disposed to discuss the matter with the Council of Churches.
