The new chief magistrate Anne Marie Smith raised a few eyebrows when she heard her first case and set a self confessed guilty man free.

Fifty two year old wine vendor Lennox Pinks pleaded guilty to a charge of theft but was neither fined nor confined - he was set free with a caution and a reprimand.

The incident occurred yesterday when Pinks stole 12 screen painted T-Shirts each with a value of $18.95, from Maya Sew and Sew, located on Albert Street.

Pink was seen taking the T-Shirts from off the shelf and he was pursued by a security guard who caught him but he managed to escape. Later the same day the police apprehended him when he reportedly attempted to sell a police officer one of the T-Shirts. All the T-Shirts were recovered.
