And we don't know whether it was the tension of the storm scare or slippery roads, but there were a number of serious accidents on the highway today.

The worst was in Sandhill where a 28 year old woman lost her life while her four month old child is critical tonight.

The accident occurred at 12:45 and we were there shortly after:

Jules Vasquez Reporting

The Toyota Prado rested upside down in the middle of the road between miles 16 and 17.

Residents say it was heading to the city from Orange Walk when the driver lost control and it flipped four times before landing here. They asked to speak off-camera

Voice Of: Witness to Accident #1
"I heard a loud bang about 4 times, and when I came, I saw the last flip the vehicle did. I saw 4 Hispanic men help the driver out of the car. His left arm was broken. It seems like the woman fell out of the car at about the second flip - the third flip that they did."

Voice Of: Witness to Accident #2
"When I came around the curve, the vehicle was coming. It looks like the person lost control and it flipped over about 2 times. If flipped across the road, and then it flipped back. And if flipped again and ended up on the road. The lady flew then flew out, and the baby flew out as well."

The passenger, 28 year old Ning Jiang Cuiyo, was flung to her death as the vehicle flipped. She ended up 75 feet from where the vehicle rested.

Police put her in the back of the truck for transport to the morgue. And while she died from the massive impact, incredibly her four month old baby girl Xy Li Jiang, survived, she landed here - where this depression is - about five feet away from her mother, and about 80 feet from the Prado.

Voice Of: Witness to Accident #1
"The baby was actually in a hole. It seems like she was bleeding from the head and feet. Some Hispanic women came by in green minivan. They asked what happened; they then picked up the baby, and took her to the hospital."

She is critical and currently receiving treatment at the KHMH. As to what caused the accident - experienced observers pointed us out to this a broken ball joint on the front passenger side wheel - which could have been a cause. This is how an intact ball joint should look.

Whatever the cause the spectacular ruin was laid bare when it was flipped over.

The passengers never had a chance - with their side rushed in completely. Notably they didn't seem to be wearing seat belts. No airbags were released, and there was no baby seat just a stroller, the dashboard bobble heads now mocking their cruel fate, the wreckage telling nothing of the value of the lives lost.

The driver 28 year old Xin Yu Jiang, was not flung from the vehicle but received head and body injuries and is in a serious, but stable condition at the K.H.M.H.
