Last week Friday evening, Police headquarters circulated a list of promotions for police officers who were going from Constable To Corporal, Corporal To Sergeant And Sergeant To Inspector.
We've only seen the names of those going from Sargeant to Inspector and it includes some well known cops, including the omnipresent Fitzroy Yearwood, and the fairly well known Henry Jemoth, Ricardo Chi, Santiago Ciau, Mark Flowers, Ernel Dominguez, and Jeffrey Gabourel among others.
But all is not well with the list of officers who got the nod to go up - and a fair number of other officers are crying foul, because they say many of the promotions are not based on merit, they're simply favourites of Compol Crispin Jeffries.
Specifically, they say that many of those who have been promoted at all ranks failed their promotion tests and did so abjectly, but are still being promoted ahead of others who passed or did not fail as poorly.
And they're not just complaining; they're doing something about it. 7news has confirmed that a group of police officers has retained Attorneys to file an injunction on Monday in the Supreme Court to try and block the implementation of the promotions which go into effect on Tuesday November first.
We've often heard of complaints about promotions, but this is the first time that an injunction has been sought to try and block them. We'll let you know how it goes...
