In too many cases, the allegations are true, but in some, the complaints are either tall tales or exaggerations. Whichever the case, the much - criticized police department has learned to take it on the chin, and for better or worse, generally do not follow up on people's complaints in the media.
But not the GSU. That unit has gotten after a man who told Channel five that his Dangriga home was mashed up by the GSU. Timothy August, a 33 year old unemployed of Dangriga Town told News 5 that the (G.S.U.) broke into his house and stole (1) MP3 player belonging to his daughter and a cell phone. He further alleged that the G.S.U. ransacked his house and damaged the front door. An investigation was conducted which determined that on the day in question, members of the G.S.U. did not visit nor search Timothy August's residence. So they are saying that he gave a malicious report to News 5 about members of the G.S.U. As a result Police formally arrested and charged Timothy August for the offence of Mischievous Act.
