Felipe Wagner was charged with the attempted murder of his wife on November 21st.
It was an ugly episode, he stabbed her twice one on the chest and one on the back after he caught her with his brother along Rio Bravo Street in the Louisiana Area of Orange Walk Town.
He was ordered to be remanded to the Central Prison in Hattieville, but it seems he has been given a special dispensation. Police have permitted him to remain in custody at the Orange Walk Police station instead of going to prison. The official reason is that Police are convinced that a hit has been put out on him - and it will be carried out at the prison if he is put on remand.
But that doesn't really wash - because if police gave special protection to every inmate who faced a threat at prison - well, let's just say, the Prison might be half empty.
But that's their story and they're sticking to it. He remains at the station tonight - police say he is awaiting bail for the charge.
