Police shot a man today in Belize City - after he allegedly fired on them first. This morning around 10:00 a police patrol team saw a suspicious car on Mosul Street and tried to pull it over. But then the driver sped up and raced down Vernon Street into Magazine Road. According to reports that's where the passenger jumped out and police say he started firing at them.
Police returned fire and shot him in the shoulder. That "He" is 22 year old Al Young Jones - who lives on nearby Cedar Street also known as Banak Street. Police recovered a 9mm Glock pistol with (17) live rounds of 9mm ammunition.
That's where police detained his 19 year old brother Patrick "Pato" Jones who was allegedly also in the car. The name Patrick Pato Jones you may recall was recently in the news when someone threw a training grenade at his mother's home - on the said Cedar-slash-Banak Street.
Now, the older Jones is in the hospital pending charges for firearm possession shooting at police, while Patrick is detained. This is the third loaded pistol recovered by the newly reconfigured police patrols in three days.
