Last night, 7News told you about Police Constable Dayton Sacasa, who was charged for extorting 2 detainees. Well, we can confirm that tonight, he is out on bail after he was taken to Magistrate's Court late yesterday evening.

PC Sacasa, a 41 year-old resident of Dangriga, was rushed into court at a few minutes before closing yesterday, an opportune moment, away from the cameras, because all the media houses were already back in their news rooms.

He was arraigned on 2 counts of extortion, to which he pleaded not guilty, and was granted bail, which he met.

As we reported, Sacasa was allegedly on duty guarding the "holding cell" at Precinct 2 yesterday morning. The two men were detained on suspicion of drug possession, and according to them, Sacasa offered to free them if they paid him $50 each. When they found out that they would have been set free anyway, they went to the Professional Standards Branch and reported the incident.

Police say that Sacasa was searched, and they found $100 on him, which they believe was the money that both men paid him, as they had reported. He was swiftly arrested and charged, and he must return for his adjournment on February 25, 2014
