And as we said, all roads at Christmas time lead to the Corozal free zone for those trying to get in on some cheap liquor. Last night we told you about an elite police team that was spotted by members of the public in the zone stocking up on Mexican Beer. Tonight we have received credible reports which say that it was the newly created Mobile Interdiction Team or "M-I-T" as they are known. The team is funded, trained and set up by the US government to be a highly mobile, highly flexible team to respond to hotspots across the country.

But it seems that yesterday they used that mobility to go the Free Zone, and the flexibility to get out of the zone without getting checked by customs. 7news has information that yesterday at around 3:30, the MIT van was seen in the Zone at two stores: Modelo Distribution and El Dorado Distributors stacking up on Corona and Old Milwaukee Beer.

Normally, they would have had to deal with the customs checkpoint, but it seems all that special training was used on getting out of the zone in stealth mode: the van reportedly slipped through the cargo section where there is no customs checkpoint. So, no one was caught, no cargo was intercepted and there is no "smoking gun" per se, just the very credible reports we have received.

Today, the CEO in the Ministry of National Security, George Lovell told us that he has been briefed on these allegations. He says that quote, "The commissioner did have a talk with his people who are denying the allegations." End quote.

But, he added there are reportedly surveillance recordings, and they police along with customs is looking into the matter.
