Former multiple term Belize City Mayor and Caribbean Shores Area Representative Joe Coye is on his way to Los Angeles tonight to be with his daughter Annamarie, after her only child, Kristin Melissa Young was killed in a catastrophic road accident that claimed 6 lives.
21 year old Kristin who had been living with Coye and his wife in Belize for some months in early 2013, was in the front seat of a Chevy Camaro that was going the wrong way at very high speeds on Sunday morning at 4:40 am.
According to news reports out of Los Angeles, the Camaro was northbound in the southbound lane of the 57 freeway with 21 year old Olivia Culbreath, at the wheel, her 24 year old sister Maya Louise Culbreath in the back seat and Kristin in the front. They crashed head on into a Ford Explorer, which then hit a Ford Freestyle. Four members of a family inside the Ford Explorer were all killed.
Three people - including Kristin Young - were ejected from their cars. Four were pronounced dead at the scene. Two others were transported to UC Irvine Medical Center, but died shortly after. The Camaro was smashed beyond recognition but the 21 year old driver somehow survived. She is facing suspicion of drunken driving and was arrested on for manslaughter charges. She remains in the hospital with multiple injuries.
Joe Coye had only two grandchildren - both grand-daughters.
