There were two doses of bad news for San Fransisco RC school in Orange Walk Town this week.

The first was a stolen Dell computer in Monday night's burglary of their computer lab.

But the news only got worse today when it was discovered that there had been a second burglary of the lab and this time 11 computers had been taken.

And this afternoon acting principal Percival Gideon told CTV3 that the loss is a major blow to the school's distance learning plan:

Percival Gideon - Acting Principal

"Yesterday Tuesday, September 8th one of our teachers informed us that apparently it looks like someone got into our computer lab. Upon checking indeed, we realized that we had an intruder or intruders that got into our lab. Upon inspection, we noticed that computer number 15 a Dell black computer was missing. I called the police, informed the police, and informed management and we managed to replace the locks that were destroyed. This morning unfortunately we had another news, sad news to report where the same teacher informed us because he needs to pass close to the lab before he gets to his class so he is the one who noticed again that the computer door was indeed open again and upon checking we realized that yes all the locks that we had replaced were broken again and they had access inside of our computer and for this time eleven of our dell computers went away. So we did the process again we called the police, at this moment I can say that the police are doing their collecting of data and then I have informed management and I am pleading to the general public that its two times for this three days that an intruder or intruders got into our computer room and I am pleading for the community that if they have seen or they hear any rumours of people taking along computers or selling computer parts to give us a call, to call the police because we really need your help. For the past three years we have been trying to replace our old computers with new computers so I need to reiterate that the computers that are missing are our new replaced ones now at this moment we all know that COVID is around we're doing distance learning with our students and yesterday when I met with my staff we realized that we need to go online with classes so we were setting up a platform, a google platform so that we can feed our students from our school so indeed the lab would be the right place for us to start feeding our students if we do not want to do it on our personal computers but the lab would be the best, know that we do not have our computers we see ourselves with a big loss we can see ourselves handicapped and as much as we are trying to be innovate, as much as we're trying to cater for our students we have people that are hurting us, that are putting a barrier to us and we feel that we really need help."

The total value of the stolen computers is in excess of $18,000.00 BZD.
