This weekend, the news went out that a Belizean had been shot and killed in Roatan, the island just off the northern coast of Honduras.
He has been identified to us as Napoleon Vicente, a resident of Belize City, and at this time, not much is known about his very violent end. We understand that he suffered two headshots and one to the body, and best information in Belize suggests that his murder may be a drug-related execution.
We attempted to speak with several of Vicente's family in Belize City, but they declined, saying that they don't know much more than what has been released publicly about his killing. They were concerned about getting his body back to Belize, and we were told that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was working with their counterparts in Honduras to hopefully have it sent to Belize.
Late this evening, we were contacted by one of his family members who said that the Foreign Affairs Ministry had made some progress in locating exactly where his body was being kept in Honduras.
Vicente was a skilled engineer and boatsman - and had been mixed up with the law before for alleged engine and vessel theft.
