The City's other weekend murder occurred yesterday evening, sometime after 4:00 o'clock. 26-year-old PHILLIP Shakeem Dennison, a resident of Rivero Street, was playing basketball on the Yabra Basketball Court.

And while he and others were distracted by their basketball games, a gunman rode up on a black motorcycle from the direction of the cemetery. He reportedly walked onto the court, immediately fired 3 shots directly at Dennison, and sped off on his motorcycle.

Dennison was severely injured by those gunshots, and shortly after, he died at the KHMH while getting emergency care

Here's what police told us today about their investigation into the case:

Supt. Alejandro Cowo - OC, CIB Belize City
"Yesterday, just before 5, police responded to shots being fired in the Yabra area, specifically at the basketball court. When police arrived at the location, they observed Shakeem Dennison, a 26-year-old old of a Belize City address, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds to the body. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, whilst receiving treatment. What we know is that he was at the basketball court along with other friends, playing basketball, when a male person rode up on a motorcycle, and again, went direct to him and fired the shots at him, causing the fatal injuries."

"Well, we are presently interviewing family members to try and establish a definite motive, but up to now, we don't have any direct [information] as to what might have led to his death."
