A high-speed police pursuit last night in the Belize District led to the discovery of 72 pounds of marijuana. The chase began with officers receiving a tip to be on the lookout for a red vehicle and ended with one person in their custody. Commissioner of Police, Chester Williams, gave the details.

Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police "Yesterday evening sometime around 6, police at the checkpoint near the manatee lookout on the Phillip Goldson highway intercepted a red Volkswagen car, inside that vehicle were 2 individuals. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 71 pounds of cannabis, those persons are in custody and are expected to be charged today for drug trafficking."
The person in custody is expected to be charged with drug and traffic offenses. This is believed to be part of a trafficking ring moving weed form Mexico through the North to Central Belize.
