And Senator/Minister Courtenay was sworn in early ‘cause he's got a lot on his plate. This morning he held two high level bilateral meetings in Belmopan.
The first of these meetings was a presentation of credentials by the new Ambassador of Guatemala to Belize, Erwin Rudy Archilla Falla. The Minister and Ambassador primarily discussed the submission of Guatemala's 500-page memorial to ICJ but also discussed the effect of recent hurricane-induced floods on both countries.
Next on the agenda was a bilateral meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) H.E. Remus Chen. This one seems to have been more routine with the pair reviewing ongoing cooperation between Belize and Taiwan and pledging continued mutual support for the future.
And later in the day, the Minister met with OAS representative Luis Coimbra.
Coimbra reiterated the commitment of the OAS to support Belize. And Minister Courtenay, for his part, recognized the role of the OAS both locally and regionally, praising its support through its office in the Adjacency Zone for such important matters as development and education.
The Minister was accompanied in all three meetings by his Minister of State, Ramon Monchi Cervantez and his C.E.O., Amalia Mai.
