He was busted with weed in wholesale quantities, and remanded for drug trafficking yesterday - but, tonight, Constable Dion Bellini is out on Supreme Court bail.
As we told you on Christmas police busted the 35-year-old Bellini in Orange Walk. Acting on intelligence, they went to the Westrac parking lot where they found him under a white jeep. When the officers searched the Jeep, they found 33 parcels of weed - reportedly "Mexican Hydro."
Bellini was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply. He was arraigned yesterday in the Orange Walk Magistrate court, and was remanded until February 3, 2021.
But, he avoided going to jail, because as Bellini was being transferred from the Orange Walk Police Station to the Belize Central Prison today, his attorney, Richard "Dickie" Bradley swooped in and secured bail. Bradley appeared before Justice Herbert Lord and told our court reporter the details of the Judge's decision to grant bail of $15,000.

Richard "Dickie" Bradley, Attorney
"Officer Bellini had appeared in the Orange Walk Magistrate court and it is a large quantity of marijuana which the law will take a serious view of. As a consequence t5he magistrate in Orange Walk felt that in accordance with the law the crime control act - that is a matter for which bail could not be granted. Officer Bellini applied to the supreme court which fortunately for him Judge Lord decided to hear his bail application today and any other bail application in the view of the fact that tomorrow Thursday is a half day for the public servants and Friday of course nobody is going to be in the office, so at the bail hearing today the application for his freedom was heard and crown consul Romie Wade did not raise any strong objections and just require that conditions be attached to his bail. He will be on a high bail of $15,000, He is of course required to report to the police station every week and he is not to interfere with witnesses, in this case that is unlikely."
"I have not had an opportunity to go into the details in regards to this matter. It sounds to me based on what the police have told the court in their summary of the facts that there was a vehicle parked in broad daylight and the drugs were found in a suitcase and that they are claiming that the police officer was around the vehicle. He wasn't seen driving the vehicle, but you would need to actually have the statements from the persons who arrested and charged him. The law is that a public officer or a police officer he who is charge with a criminal offence is required to be place on interdiction and to receive half pay while their matter is in court."
Bellini must present land documents, or two sureties of $7,200 as well. Up until 2:30 this afternoon, his relatives were working on securing his bail.
He is a former member of the GSU - bow stationed in Cayo. He is originally from Maya Mopan. Police have said that the weed found in his vehicle is related to another amount - over 300 pounds found at a farm in Consejo, Corozal last week.
