And while the Minister and the General were frank with their disappointment, the COMPOL told us that these men are just the latest in a string of officers to be caught transporting drugs.

Cherisse Halsall:
"But Sir there are always rumors circulating that the authorities must be helping in some way to move drugs through this country, what's your comment to that now that that has somewhat been proven right?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"Well, Cherisse I don't think we have ever shied away from that as a matter of fact over the past few weeks we have charged a number of police officers for trafficking a large number of drugs just that in those case it was but we know that there are police officers and members of BDF and coast guard who are involved in drug trafficking and the public can see that once it is that these officers manifest themselves, we deal with them, we are not here to cover for nobody, you want to go and deal with drugs, you're caught you will face the consequences no matter where you work or who you are, it's as simple as that."

So tonight 1,600 pounds or about ¾ of a ton of cocaine are under guard by police, and out in the wilds of the Belize river valley there is a burnt and crashed drug plane out in the bush. We'll have a closer look at the wreckage later on in the news.
