And while the cops wouldn't say much about the details of the fire that killed Kendra and Aiden, the press didn't let up on putting question after question to Senior Superintendent Hilberto Romero.

Sr. SUPT. Hilberto Romero
"An investigation was carried out into this matter and her ex-common-law husband was detained. He has since been charged for the two counts of murder and arson. He has been identified as Demas Mendez, 30 years Belizean of Harmonyville."

Reporter
"Sir is it true that this ex-common-law handed himself over to police on Saturday morning?"

Sr. SUPT. Hilberto Romero
"He was detained and then interviewed and that was what led to his arrest but yes he handed himself in."

Reporter:
"The family is saying that they noticed blood and that the child was decapitated, is that true?"

Sr. SUPT. Hilberto Romero
"I will not go into the details of what was found at the scene."

Reporter:
"Yes Sir but there's information from the family members saying that Kendra made several reports to the police in terms of her being abused, are you aware of those reports Sir?"

Sr. SUPT. Hilberto Romero
"Yes, we are aware of those reports."

Cherisse Halsall:
"Sir why was nothing done?"

Sr. SUPT. Hilberto Romero
"The reports were investigated and action was taken into the reports."

Cherisse Halsall:
"What type of action?"

Sr. SUPT. Hilberto Romero
"I will not go into the reports but some type of action was taken in regards to the report."

Cherisse Halsall:
"Sir the thing is that if serious action isn't taken when women report these incidents then this is the result."

Sr. SUPT. Hilberto Romero
"Again, I will not go into any details as to the previous reports."

Jules Vasquez:
"Was there an active restraining order?"

Sr. SUPT. Hilberto Romero
"Not that I know of, no."

Reporter
"Had she, is there any indication of how he gained access to the house, Sir?"

Sr. SUPT. Hilberto Romero
"Well, he came to the house and called out that he wanted to be let in and he was not allowed and thereafter he set the house on fire."

Jules Vasquez:
"But there are reports that the front of the house was set on fire but she and the baby were found in the back, so is there any indication if he went into the house gained access to the house somehow, murdered them, and then set the house on fire?"

Sr. SUPT. Hilberto Romero
"Not that we know, the information that we have is that he set the fire from outside, whereas they were inside."

Demas Mendez turned himself over to police on Saturday morning, he has since been charged with both murder and arson.
