Less than 24 hours before this afternoon's murder, another man was killed right across the street from his home on Santa Barbara Street.

29-year-old Marquin Drury had been standing near his neighbour's gate with some other men when he became the victim of a drive by shooting.

Drury has a long history with the police, and while his family believes he was targeted solely for the company he kept, they declined an interview.

However, the police were able to give us the preliminary details on this case.

Supt. Alejandro Cowo - Head CIB Belize City "What we know is that Mr Drury was along with other friends on the street side on Santa Barbara street when a vehicle approached them and apparently someone from inside the vehicle fired shots at their direction causing the fatal injuries to Mr Drury."

Reporter "Is it gang related?"

Supt. Alejandro Cowo "Yes, we suspect it is gang related. Unfortunately, we were not able to speak to him as when he was taken to the hospital the doctor priority in trying to save him. The other persons who were along with him the police are still looking for them and asking for them to please assist police in this investigation. I know that from last night, police presence have been tightened at the area. We know who are the two groups that are involved, and police are already there from last night and this morning there have been several foot and vehicle patrols in the area we suspect something might flare up. We know that there is still an ongoing dispute among different elements within the city and as someone has an opportunity to strike, most of the time that is what happened."

In 2014, Drury had been involved in a police chase and shootout on Mahogany Street. Then in 2016, he and his father were arrested for having an unlicensed firearm in their possession. In 2019, he and two other men were targeted by a gunman - he was only grazed but one of the other men passed away.
