But the police might have their hands full with the crimes already happening in the country. Last night, another gang-related murder was reported on Plues Street. The fear of retaliation is so strong that even neighbors on that street locked their doors when our team went out to the area.
But the police department isn't afraid and today the commissioner sent a strong message to the gangs. Courtney Menzies has this story.
20-year-old Stefan Bowen probably thought it was just another night on the block. He was standing at the corner of Plues and Berkeley Streets with some friends when a gunman ran up to the group and opened fire. Bowen was killed and in the process, a teenager, 19-year-old Sherece Tillett Williams, was hit.
While Williams survived the incident, she has had to bury her father and her brother, who were both murdered. After her brother was shot in May, it led to a spate of violence, one of the most murderous in the last decade.
But the police department is preparing itself and the commissioner sent out a warning to the gang members.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I know that last night, sometime after 9pm, police responded to information of shots being fired in the area of Plues Street and upon arrival a male person as seen suffering from gunshot injuries, so was a female, both persons were rushed to the KHMH where the male person succumbed minutes later to his injuries. The female person is admitted in a stable condition at this time."

"We know the young lady who was shot, her brother had been recently killed, and her father had also been murdered, and when the brother was killed recently, that spawned a lot of retaliation, what's going to happen next?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We do have things in place to mitigate any retaliation but let me say that the Drive Street, the Wagner's Lane, the Mayflower and the Banak crowd, they will get what they're looking for very shortly."
Bowen's family declined an interview, and told us that while they are not exactly sure of what happened, they just want to bury him and move on.
Bowen had no children.
