Two days ago, the police and a throng of civilians got into a tangle on Queen Charlotte Street after officers broke up a birthday party with 17 people in attendance - illegal under the current COVID regulations.
The civilians resisted arrest and wrestled with the cops; police responded by pepper spraying them. Three men were then taken into custody.
They men were charged yesterday for attending a private gathering which includes persons from outside the immediate household. It was said that they would also be charged for assaulting a police officer. The police were also seeking another suspect in this incident.
And today, the head of the household, Norris Meighan went to court after being charged with holding a social gathering and assaulting a police officer.
But his arraignment was postponed for tomorrow, but he explained to our court reporter that he will be advising his son, who was placed in a chokehold during the incident, to file a complaint.

Norris Meighan - Charged for Social Gathering and Assault
"I'm here because they charged me with social gathering and assaulting a police officer."
Reporter
"Tell me about the officer."
Norris Meighan
"This officer is Mr. Denfield Martinez."
Reporter
"And what role did he play that night?"
Norris Meighan
"He is the officer that ordered the other officers to take strong actions. He was in front of me and I saw when he gave the sign and everybody attack. They attacked the guys and start pulling them, I see them pull one of my son and put throw him in the vehicle."
Reporter
"What next for the family?"
Norris Meighan
"I plan to arraignment, get bail and take legal action against the government for the choke hold and different things they did to my son."
Reporter
"And your son?"
Norris Meighan
"I am advising him to make a complaint so that they file a charge against that officer because only reason you choke hold a person is to be kill him. If you know military training and tactics, when you choke hold a person, the choke hold he put on my son, if my cousin didn't hit him in the face, my son was also comatose, he couldn't breathe already. As a matter of a fact if you continue to watch the video, my son was out of it while they were scuffling, now this is something the camera showed, I didn't even saw that the night."
Meighan maintains that he and his family did not assault any officers.
Meighan is also planning a civil suit against the department for what he classifies as constant unjustified harassment.
