Tonight we begin with some devastating news - 15-year-old Kassman Gill who was shot only a stone's throw away from his home on August 16th has passed away after seven weeks of being in the hospital.

After the incident, Gill was hanging on by a thread, but his family held on to the hope that he would recover after he became responsive. His father told us in a previous interview that he speak constantly with Kassman, and though the teen was paralyzed from the neck down, he was able to move his head to show that he was aware of his surroundings.

The last time we spoke with his father, Cecil Gill, he said that Kassman's organs were doing well and that the infection in his lungs was getting better. His father hoped that one day he would be able to walk again.

But just before news time tonight, Gill informed us that Kassman passed away at the KHMH. He now joins the eight other minors who have died in the past two months from gun violence.

Kassman was heading to a friend's house on the day he was shot, and a few minutes after he left his own home, a gunman on a bicycle rode up to him and opened fire, hitting him in his spine. The third form SJC student was targeted for no known reason. No one has been arrested for it.

We will have more on this story tomorrow.
