Two businesses were robbed in the city today. The first happened this morning at 9:20 at Goodwill supermarket on Central American Boulevard where the robbers briefly took a child hostage.

Two men - pretending to be shoppers - turned the tables on the owner when they held him up with a nine millimetre pistol.

The other man then went around the counter and grabbed the owner's son. Fearing for his child's life he handed over an undisclosed amount of cash and both men ran off. Reports say suspects from the area have been detained.

And then this afternoon, two robbers went to the Phillip Goldson Highway at the Wood Stop lumber outlet. The Manager reported that at 1:20 she was in her office when a lone male entered and pointed a handgun at her through a small window and commanded her to open the office door for another man to enter. This second robber demanded money and took everything from the cash pan. They then took off on bicycle toward Freetown Road.

Police haven't detained anyone yet.
