On Tuesday, we brought you the story of an older brother protecting his younger sibling from their abusive father.

23-year-old Olvin Rivas allegedly witnessed his father, 52-year-old Amaya Salvador Rivas, beating his mother before turning to choke his 18-year-old brother on Tuesday morning. He then got a machete and chased his father out into the yard before fatally chopping him several times.

At the time, the incident was considered a death investigation, but last night, Olvin Rivas was arrested and charged with his own father's murder.

Rivas' mother and five of her six children had moved from Georgetown to San Roman after she had separated from her common-law. But Amaya Rivas followed them and had been sleeping in their adjoining kitchen before waking up at 4am and allegedly forcing his way to where the rest of the family were sleeping.
