A 23-year-old mother of 3 was killed in a car accident at around 7:00 on Sunday morning in the Stann Creek District between San Roman and Maya Mopan village. And it happened while she was working to raise funds for her own ailing mother.

It's an unimaginable tragedy that's slowly settling on the Teul family. This evening we spoke to her brother Christopher via phone. He told us about the terrible twist of fate that's left his very young nieces to grow up without their mother.

Christopher Teul, Brother of the deceased
"My mom was having a raise funds selling tamales so they were delivering tamales, they went to the nearby village of San Roman to deliver tamales from my mom and they were returning back from San Roman to Maya Mopan village when upon reaching by the cemetery there was a curve and then they said that the front left tire got punctured and the driver lost control of the vehicle and they overturned."

"She was with my mom from the beginning the night before when they are preparing to make the tamales and then she was back at my mom's house early in the morning, from 4:30 she is already back with my mom getting ready to have the tamales delivered to the persons that have ordered."

"My mom is also ill she suffers from diabetes and other illness so she was just helping herself by doing this to raise funds on that day. There is nothing we can do we just have to accept what happened because our life is not in our hands."

"I had to rush my mother to the southern regional hospital last night because after she heard the news that my sister was involved in the accident, then she was not, like I said she was already suffering from sickness so she is taking it hard with this tragedy but when we received the call from the husband before we left my late sister's husband told us that we would need to go to the KHMH because she had a 50/50 chance of survival so when we rushed my mom to the hospital to Dangriga upon our arrival that is when we saw that the ambulance had already parked by the emergency room and my sister was being placed into the ambulance. Before the ambulance could leave the compound and go to Dangriga the doctors tried their best to have her stable so that she could be ferried to Belize City but she passed away before they could even leave the compound so we were there, present when she took her last breath."
