If you watch the news nightly, you'll know that crime is up in 2022, and the UDP - which itself presided over steady increases in crime almost constantly from 2008 to 2020 - is pouncing on what the opposition calls, quote, "the lack of urgency and care being expressed by Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa in his response to this extended period of anarchy." End quote.
A release from the UDP Shadow Minister for National Security says, quote, "Statistics from inside the police department shows that in the first three weeks of April, the Eastern Division has registered a 75 percent increase in reported number of murders, robberies, and home invasions when compared to the same time last year Shadow Minister Peyrefitte also points to the case of Tracy Thompson, calling it a, quote, "classic example of the experiences of victims of gender-based violence. Her cry for help was not treated with the level of urgency required from the police department and it ultimately cost her her life….when there were political points to be earned from his minister, the Commissioner of Police himself intervened in a reported domestic abuse case….Where was this sense of urgency for Miss Thompson and others currently crying out for help?" End quote.
The UDP closes by, quote, "calling once again to end this failed Kareem Musa experiment. It is an exercise in arrogance that is preventing the implementation of common-sense solutions to arresting crime."
The UDP calls for reconvening the national security task force on fighting crime.
