Back in 2017, 21-year-old Jamalski Young was killed after a vehicle reversed into his motorcycle on the Philip Goldson Highway - causing the motorcycle to burst into flames, causing him to die on the spot from burn injuries. The driver, Erick Salazar Guzman fled the scene, only to later turn himself in.

Guzman was arrested and charged with manslaughter, causing death by careless conduct, driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, failing to stop and render aid, failing to report an accident, and failing to give way a motor vehicle on a major road.

And today, he pleaded down to causing death by careless conduct. Justice Madam Susan Lamb spared him from jail time by handing him a 2,750 dollar fine, playable within 12 months of the date of judgement, in default, six months imprisonment.

He was also ordered to pay compensation in the sum of $4,500 within 24 months to the family of the deceased. $3,000 is to be paid to Young's former common-law wife for the benefit of their daughter, and $1,500 will go to Young's mother.
