A month ago we told you the "he said - she said" story of an arson. It involved a former couple Devon Geban and Clarine Castillo who lived in the Cet Site area of Lake Independence.

But that co-habitation which by their neighbour's accounts was a mutually abusive situation, finally came to a violent end on the night of June 2nd when Geban claimed that Castillo attempted to set him on fire. And, while he didn't burn, the house that they occupied certainly did, along with all of his possessions.

Well, today 50-year-old Clarine Castillo appeared in the court of Magistrate Aretha Ford to be read a single charge of arson but when asked if she understood the charge Castillo responded quote: "not really." and then explained, quote; "The house is mine and I nuh burn down my house..."

But Senior Magistrate Ford explain to her that since the offence is indictable and will be tried at the Supreme Court, she need not explain anything to her.

Castillo's ex-common law, Devon Geban has told 7News that while she had been granted the parcel of land upon which the house was constructed, the materials out of which it was made were largely funded by him. Castillo refuted that in court today claiming that the house is hers and that it was being constructed with a $150,000 grant that had been given to her.

But today the prosecutor trying Castillo's case didn't object to her bail and so she offered her bail of $5,000 plus two sureties of $2,500 each which she was able to meet by 3:00 this evening.
