Another Toyota Hilux has been stolen in Western Belize. The theft happened at about 8:30 pm on Monday, July 4th when three men entered the home of a 59-year-old Cayo resident, holding him at gunpoint and demanded his vehicle key which he promptly handed over.
Thereafter the culprits were able to make off with Dawson's 2007 Toyota Hilux but they didn't get far.
That's because just two hours later at 10:22 p.m., the stolen vehicle was stopped at a police checkpoint where officers requested that the 3 occupants 23-year-old Clinton Medina, 23-year-old Mark Coleman, and 22-year-old Edgar Lopez exit the vehicle.
Police then requested the vehicle's documents and when the driver was unable to produce them they searched the vehicle.
That search led to the discovery of a.22 handgun containing a magazine with (14) live rounds of ammunition. The cops requested a gun license for the weapon and when none was presented all three men were detained and later charged with "Kept firearm and ammunition without a gun license." No word yet on whether they will be charged for the vehicle theft.
