In June of 2017, 36 year old Jermaine Franklin was buying a few DVDs on King Street when he was gunned down. Just after Franklin walked into the DVD store, the assailant ran in after him and fired several shots at his back. Franklin collapsed on the street, and the gunman fled.
Well, after 5 years on remand, 30-year-old, Kashief Gallego, a resident of #72 East Canal in Belize City has pleaded guilty to the murder. Yesterday morning in the Court room of Justice Madam Susan Lamb, Gallego - in the presence of his attorney, Erin Quiros entered a guilty plea for murder. Justice Lamb has deferred sentencing for September 23, 2022.
At the time of the murder, Gallego - then 25 - lived at #72 East Canal Street a half a block away from the murder scene. In a caution statement he gave to police, he told investigators, quote, "Yesterday, I saw him at Teddy's and I took it personal. There was no one behind the motive, it was personal between me and him." End quote. The DPP's office is represented by Romey Wade.
