Earlier in the month Belizean resident Lloyd Thompson is said to have been taken to Chetumal to be treated after he sustained injuries in a collision. But did that collision occur after a shooting?
Today reporters asked ASP Fitzroy Yearwood for an update on the odd case and, in a rare move, he disclosed quite a few details on a case that's anything but straightforward.
ASP Fitzroy Yearwood, Communications Officer
"It was alleged that he was taken to Chetumal. We know that the last time the record at the border with immigration shows exactly what date he left Belize and it wasn't last week. It was earlier in this month earlier in September so we are trying to verify whether or not he was even in that vehicle because of immigration records we would go down to say just that he is in Mexico or on the Mexican side, no. For us to prove that he was in that vehicle that crashed into it was a Toyota four-runner that crashed into a Toyota Corolla where first avenue and 7th avenue meets. We know that a report was made about that vehicle passing a marker on what we call the Miami Beach side in Corozal and they allege that three shots were fired from that vehicle toward wood house bar and so the, and thy are saying that when that vehicle drove off it may have crashed into another vehicle that was parked on first avenue and it is also alleged that a lady arrived on the scene claiming that her son was shot in that vehicle and was taken on the Mexican side for medical treatment. Like I said if he did it would be that he crossed into Mexico without notifying our immigration people, personnel. So for that to be cleared up then I could be able to confirm whether or not he was in that vehicle at the time that it crashed."
