And in our next story - there's no denial. It's a voice note from a gangster who's owning a murder allegedly committed by his gang. The person in the voice clip is a Belize City gang figure well known to this newsroom and to the police. Reports say he is now in the US seeking asylum - along with many other gang members, street sources tell us.
But his recording - boasting of committing murder and getting the victim's firearm along with it - have been circulating. And while it may not meet the standard of evidence, It is no less than a confession to a recent killing.
We asked the Commissioner of police what can be done about the recording on Tuesday and he wasn't too optimistic. Here first is a clip of what was said:
Recording
"You didn't see what we did with reds at -- Ladyville then, and we took away 2 things from him. That right there we will power wash you with, we are still up and we will kill one of you and get two guns from you, I don't know what you are talking about."
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Yes, we need to have some voice recognition expert who will be able to ascertain without any doubt that the person in the voice clip is indeed him. Yes, you are I who have come into contact with him on numerous occasions can say at first glance that the voice is his but we still need to go beyond that and then we need to see whether or not the information in the voice clip is indeed credible. That what he described had actually occurred and then once that is ascertained, then we can look at perhaps producing a warrant, because to some extent he is promoting gang activity. Once we have produced the warrant for his arrest then we would inform the U.S. Authority and interpole to indicate that he is wanted in Belize on that particular charge. Once he is captured and returned to the country then we can proceed with court proceeding against him in respect thereof. And, if it is that we can get more in respect to the murders that he alleged in the voice note was committed by him or his group then certainly the charge of murder can also be looked at in respect of that voice clip."
