Although he was injured in that shooting four days ago, Ulide Allen had to appear in the Magistrate's Court today for the offenses of being a member of a criminal gang and escaping from lawful custody.
Police allege that they can prove he is a member of one of the gangs in the Lake Independence Area, better known as PIV - or Peace in the Village. They also allege that while they were trying to detain him at the Queen Street Police Station yesterday, he escaped and was trying to prevent the officers from executing their duties against him for the gang charge.
When he appeared before a senior magistrate today, Allen inquired whether or not the police were legally allowed to charge him once again for being a gang member since he already pleaded guilty to this offense four years ago in 2018, and he paid the fine. The magistrate informed him that the cops were allowed to bring back this charge against him if they believed that he continued to engage in criminal activities.
The presiding magistrate then denied him bail and remanded him to the Belize Central Prison until February 13, 2023.
