A traffic warden employed at the Belize City Council and his girlfriend were in court today after they were busted with guns and drugs. 28-year-old Anthony Wagner and 25-year-old Vanessa Morreira were before Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer this morning and were read 5 criminal offenses - two counts of kept firearm without a gun license, one count of kept ammunition without a license, one count of possession of a controlled drugs with intent to supply and one count of possession of a controlled drug.
They were found with 28 live rounds of ammunition and two magazines, along with 181 grams of cannabis.
The couple was represented by attorney Orson OJ Elrington and they both pleaded not guilty to all charges. Due to the nature of the offenses, bail was denied and they were remanded until February 28th, 2023.
However, their attorney was able to get their bail application filed by 2 this evening, and just before 5, Justice Ricardo Sandcroft granted bail only to Morreira. Her bail was in the sum of $25,000 plus two sureties of $5,000 each. Wagner was remanded and his bail application will continue next week Tuesday.
They are both due back on February 28th.
