Maya Mopan - that's the small community on the outskirts of Belmopan that saw three murders at the end of December - two of those murders of course being Jon and David Ramnarace. Police said the murders were related, and they also said the first one - where Michael "Itza" Williams was killed - was a product of the narcotics trade.
Well, now an internal police report that was circulated to the media today raises serious questions about just what is really going on in tiny Maya Mopan. Two days before the Ramnarace murder and hours before the Michael Williams murder, a police report was made of a home invasion and robbery that seems very drug related.
We will not include the names of the victims named in the report - and only say that they are elderly men - in their late 70's and 80's. And on the afternoon of December 29th, the older of the two told police that way back on October 14th, he and the other elderly man who shares a home with him were relaxing when 5 hispanic men barged in through the back door. They recognized and named two of the men - one of them allegedly a police officer assigned to the Roaring Creek Station. They also recognized another one of the assailants as a police officer - and both the cops wore military fatigues. They allegedly tied up the men and demanded at gunpoint to know where the money is. One of the men says he pointed them to an Adidas back stuffed with 250,000 thousand dollars in cash. after which the men took the money and threatened to kill both of them if they reported the incident to the Police.
This internal police report was sent to various media houses today through unofficial channels. The media asked the police to confirm its authenticity but there was no comment.
