And while police are still looking for suspects in that murder, they're also on the hunt for the two prisoners that escaped custody late last month. As we told you, the men, 20-year-old Sergio Pineda and 25-year-old Piers Castillo, were reportedly in a holding area adjacent to the courthouse in Benque when they managed to slip out.

Pineda is especially dangerous since he charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit murder along with being accused of a home invasion and rape.

And since he was born in Guatemala, police have good reason to believe that he's already skipped town.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police

"I know that the fellow is one who gave the police a very hard time to have been located when he was wanted for a number of cross border incidents in the west. He's such a character, it is sad that he was able to escape from the police while he was attending Magistrate Court in Benque Viejo Town. However, we are again liaising with our Guatemalan counterpart and I must say we have gotten good cooperation from them to see if they will be able to assist us in locating this individual and getting him back in custody. Following his escape he was seen going over to the Guatemalan side of the border so we believe he is in the Peten area."

Courtney Menzies:
"Are the officers being investigated to see if there was any negligence on their part?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Certainly, that's a part of the investigation to see if there was any negligence or breach of policy that led to the escape of the individual and so as soon as Professional Standard Branch is done with that aspect of the investigation then we can give you and update on it."
