And while those cops were sentenced, the murder trial for 33-year-old Jorge Galindo is still ongoing. Galindo is accused of killing 35-year-old Nelson Flores in San Ignacio back in 2019. Flores was at home with his daughter and wife when the killer ran in and began firing his gun, killing him and injuring his then 12-year-old child.
Two days after the murder, Galindo was arrested and charged. But Flores' family still isn't convinced that the police arrested the right person. That's because they saw the culprit running away and they say his body stature doesn't match up to Galindo's.
Now, over three years later, they're hoping that justice can be served and that the officers can find the real killer. Flores' brother spoke with us outside Belmopan's courtroom today.
Norwin Lennon, Brother of Deceased
"We believe that he's not the murderer and we just want justice but in the right way."
Courtney Menzies:
"Why do you guys believe that Mr Galindo isn't the murderer?"
Norwin Lennon, Brother of Deceased
"Because the murderer is much taller than him and the murderer had like a bloodstain on his back so I think that he got hurt in the process of doing the murder."
Courtney Menzies:
"You said that you witnessed the murderer and you can see that it's different than the person who was charged?"

Norwin Lennon, Brother of Deceased
"Yeah, definitely. We can't see face but we can see height, we can see body shape so we know more or less, we don't know the person but we know more or less the person that is being charged is not the right person."
"It was just on the news, we were shocked, that was fast, we don't know if the police did the right investigation but no one came to us and said this is the murderer, we just saw it on the news."
Courtney Menzies:
"And you don't know the guy?"
Norwin Lennon, Brother of Deceased
"The accused? Yes, I know him. We are from right in Santa Elena so we don't believe that he would do something so close and we are in one neighborhood but we believe that because he has done previous crimes before that is why the police are using him as, or I'm not sure, but we just want to get the message out there that I believe as humans we all want justice for our loved one but in the right way and if the wrong person is getting charged then that is not justice for the family. That is justice for the police department."
Courtney Menzies:
"During the whole incident, your niece was also involved and she was injured as well. Did she at any point tell you I don't think this was the guy?"
Norwin Lennon, Brother of Deceased
"No, well, they are saying that they saw his face but from my point of view you couldn't see his face because he had on a helmet and a ski mask. How could you see someone face? But I am not sure if that is coming from their parents or maybe she is the one telling them to say that but we believe that is wrong if she's doing it and we want justice in the right way."
Galindo will be back in court next Wednesday.
